Modernizing a 72,000 sqft church roof for long-term performance
Project Name: OKC First Baptist Church Roof
Location: Oklahoma
Roof Area: 72,000 sqft
Project Completion Date: May 7, 2026
Project Duration: 8 Weeks
Products & Systems:
Kingspan TPO 60 mils
Kingspan Insulation GF 2”
Mechanically Attached System
The facility is a church with an approximately 72,000 sqft roof that required replacement due to persistent leaks and ongoing issues with the existing internal drainage system. The existing gravel-surfaced built-up roofing system was removed and replaced with a mechanically attached Kingspan insulation and 60-mil Kingspan TPO membrane system.
The owner’s priorities were to resolve recurring leaks, improve roof performance and drainage, achieve a long-term durability, and maintain normal church operations throughout construction.
The existing gravel-surfaced built-up roof had persistent leaks and a failing internal drainage system. The project was complicated by heavy rain, high winds, and the need to maintain normal church operations throughout the replacement.

The existing roof was replaced with one layer of 2-inch Kingspan Poly ISO insulation, mechanically attached to the metal deck, and a mechanically attached 60-mil Kingspan TPO roofing membrane. The system was selected to improve thermal performance, provide a durable, reflective roofing surface, address ongoing roof issues, and meet the project’s long-term durability requirement.
Installation & Execution:
The project, which ran from March 13 to May 7, was completed during a season of heavy rain and high winds. These challenging weather conditions required careful scheduling and coordination to ensure roofing work took place during suitable dry-weather windows while keeping the project on schedule. The work included removing the existing roof and coping caps, preparing the substrate, installing new Kingspan insulation and Kingspan TPO membrane, and coordinating concrete cutting to create new scupper openings connected to exterior downspouts.
Results and benefits:
The project replaced the aging roof, addressed the drainage concerns by abandoning the problematic internal drains in favor of scuppers, and was completed without disrupting church operations. The reflective Kingspan TPO membrane and improved insulation are expected to support energy efficiency.
A mechanically attached TPO roofing system was selected to meet the facility's requirements for durability, energy efficiency, weather resistance and long-term performance.
